Major Project Experience
- Part of a company-wide team to manage the divestiture of thousands of properties across the country for a global energy company. Assisted with the planning and implementation of Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments according to rigid schedules, budgets and safety requirements. Some of the specific tasks accomplished include:
- Project milestones tracking using a QMG-created database.
- Developed protocols, guidance documents and processes for Phase I and Phase II draft report submittals/reviews. Interfacing with the technical consultants and regulators in each specific market.
- Managing an in-house team and outside consulting firms to complete the review/submittal of over 800 Phase I reports and 1000 Phase II reports.
- Worked as a liaison between regulatory agency and client management team to expedite report reviews and track responses.
- Interfacing weekly with the in-house management team to report progress in each market
- Managing a major oil company’s divestment/lease disengagement of twenty retail service stations in the State of Massachusetts and New York. Responsibilities include: managing consultants, participating in strategy sessions with management and the real estate group, reviewing technical documents, negotiating the scope of work and contracts with technical consultants, reviewing invoices to ensure that the project remains on track and within budget, reviewing health and safety documents. Also, ensuring that the project strategy is consistent with the goals and objectives of the client’s business unit.
- Coordinates efforts between major oil company’s real estate group and environmental group regarding the negotiation of access to the property to conduct environmental work due to lease disengagement. Tracks progress of access agreements and provides comments/ concerns on terms/conditions as outlined in access agreements as it pertains to environmental work. Works as a liaison between members of the real estate group and environmental group to resolve any other outstanding issues pertaining to access terms, length of access, and conditions of access.
- Managed environmental liabilities for a major oil company at over 80 service stations in the State of New York. Responsibilities include: managing consultants, participating in strategy sessions with management and legal representatives, preparing and reviewing budgets for company environmental reserve process, reviewing technical documents, negotiating the scope of work and contracts with technical consultants, reviewing progress reports and invoices to ensure that the project remains on track and within budget. Also, negotiating with third parties and regulatory agencies, and ensuring that the project strategy is consistent with the goals and objectives of the client’s business unit.
- Conducted multiple remedial investigations for 22 facilities. Supervised the installation of soil borings and monitoring/recovery wells to assess and delineate the extent of hydrocarbon-impacted soil and groundwater. Developed remedial strategies to advance projects towards closure. Adhered to all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
- Managed the installation of remedial systems (i.e. soil vapor extraction, air sparge, and vapor extraction/groundwater extraction), including feasibility testing, system design and construction, start-up, operation and maintenance, and dismantling. Adhered to all federal, state, and local permitting and regulatory requirements.
- Supervised underground storage tank (UST) excavation and removal. Collected post-excavation soil samples to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
Key Accomplishments
- Obtained a No Further Action/Site Closure status from the NJDEP for five projects.
- Received written approval from the NJDEP for the proposed remedial strategies of multiple projects.
- Negotiated with the NJDEP to change a project's scope of work that led to a cost savings of greater than 40% of the project costs.
