Major Project Experience

  • Project manager for the decommissioning of a large automotive assembly plant (over 5 million square feet) targeted for demolition in Michigan. Decommissioning activities included the decontamination and/or removal of plant equipment, process chemical lines, sewers, asbestos containing materials, storage tanks, and miscellaneous abandoned oils and chemicals. Duties included project planning, direct oversight of contractors, project administration and reporting, contract negotiations, regulatory compliance analysis, budget management/tracking, invoice review/approval, and cost analysis.
  • Project manager for investigation and response actions at a 102–acre NPL landfill site in Ohio. The landfill is located in a mixed industrial/residential area with several residences within 50-feet of the property. Site response activities have included a multi–phase site investigation, buried drum and debris removal, and landfill gas abatement and treatment. Duties included project administration, generation of reports and plans, contractor/consultant procurement and oversight, technical document review, regulatory compliance analysis, agency negotiation, community relations liaison, litigation support, complex budget and trust fund management/tracking, invoice review/approval, and cost analysis.
  • Project manager for remediation of a 13–acre landfill site encompassing both private and municipal properties in Maine. The landfill borders wetlands, a recreational lake, and a residential community. Site response activities included the extension of municipal water supply, landfill cap construction, limited drum removal, groundwater extraction and treatment, wetlands mitigation/creation, and long-term operation, maintenance and monitoring. Duties included contractor/consultant procurement and oversight, technical document review, regulatory compliance analysis, agency negotiation, community relations liaison, budget and fund management, invoice review/approval, and cost analysis.
  • Project manager for property transaction site assessments of eight specialty chemical manufacturing sites in New Jersey. The assessment/investigation projects encompassed a wide range of facility types, environmental settings, hydrogeological complexities, constituents of concern, and third party involvement. Duties included project administration and reporting, contractor/consultant procurement and oversight, technical document review, regulatory compliance analysis, agency negotiation, community relations liaison, litigation support, budget and fund management/tracking, invoice review/approval, and cost analysis.
  • Project director for design and implementation of Corporate Environmental Assurance Program. Developed and personally implemented a multi–facility, multi–media auditing program for a major automotive parts manufacturer. The program was structured to assess the regulatory compliance status of 44 targeted manufacturing facilities and associated waste management vendors, and to ensure that appropriate management control systems were in place. Duties included development of auditing tools and protocol, onsite performance of audits, regulatory compliance analysis, management control systems evaluation, communication of standards and findings, monitoring and assisting corrective measures, and file management.
  • Environmental specialist for operational analysis of waste stabilization/solidification operations. Personally designed and implemented bench and field scale studies to evaluate the processes and waste stabilization/solidification materials utilized by an industrial waste management firm in the normal course of operations. Duties included experimental design, statistical analysis, pilot scale–up, cost/benefit analysis, and summary/presentation of findings and recommendations.
